Greek Spotlight: Something Greek

(c)SomethingGreek

So early in the week, I came up with an idea to do posts on some of my favorite Greek stores and/or Websites that I want to feature on my blog. Some of the stores/website people might know and some they might not know but I want to give them a little shout out and my personal reviews on what they have.
Now I thought I should start this post with the most favorite website, the one place I go to get all my Greek Store where I get a lot of my Greek Apparel, Something Greek.

Something Greek is the go to store if you want some great stuff not only for yourself but with your sorority or fraternity. Started in 1989 in Hempstead, New York, Something Greek has a great place to get your Greek apparel, stuff for formal, and anything else under the sun. Their customer service reps are amazing and extremely helpful. When it came to getting my crossing jacket, they made sure to that they give you what you ordered and make you very satisfied with your order. Their delivery is on point, even though I live in Brooklyn, I never had to wait no more than 10 days to get my order because when it comes to getting your things they make sure they give you 100% on your order.

Since I crossed in Spring 2013, I've been had at least 8 or more apparel from Something Greek and I'm not even done yet. I would recommend Something Greek because they are good at what they do and you will always get good service.

Here are some of the things I've brought or gotten from Something Greek:
This was from my first Founders Day Dinner.

If you want to check out Something Greek's Website: http://www.somethinggreek.com
Follow them on Google+: +Something Greek
Follow the Instagram & Twitter: @SomethingGreek
You will love it that place...I know I do.

XOXO,

P.S.: Greek Spotlight is a Weekly post, check out the next post Every Wednesdays.

I'M BACK!!

I've been so happy to be writing on my blog again. Since the semester is over, it's summertime fun and more blog posts, finally!! This semester was crazy but I got through it and I'm so happy. Now i'm just waiting on my grades and trying to enjoy the beautiful weather that has been bestow on us, it's been long overdue. YouTube wise, I did put up a new video about the upcoming video that I will be doing, I will be doing a collective haul of the things I got, so be on the look out for that.
Cruise related, It's three months away and I can't wait!! I need this vacation from NYC especially with my family. I will also be doing a cruise video also but that will be done closer to the cruise. As of right now, I just been looking for flights and hotels in Miami, because that's where we are leaving from so right now I'm on the hunt of some decent flight and hotel. The search is REAL! (lol.)
So that's all that's been going on in my life, for right now...the summer isn't here just yet but I'm hoping for fun times and interesting stories to tell. Also be on the look out for my new blog post coming this week. I really happy to be back!! I miss you all!!

College Girl Inc.: How To Be Stress Free During Midterm Season

Midterms! What can I really say about them other than it is stressful part of college life and we all go through it. Right now, I have one Midterm to finish and I'm not ready for it but I know I will do do well. I'm always stressed out when it comes to Midterms and I know I'm not the only one either. But do not fret, because I have some ways to make your Midterm season, a very smooth sailing season.

1. Most of people don't do this but it is very helpful, listen to music. Either music you like but not the type of music that distract you. Me, for example, I love to listen to Soca and Reggae music because it works for me and it gets me pumped up to study.

2. Study Buddies are very useful and reliable to use...utilize it to the best of your abilities. Working in groups makes the workload less stress because you are around people who have one goal, to pass. You make sure your cool with people in your class, get their contact information and set up a Study Buddy date just to study.

3. DO NOT STUDY ON YOUR BED!!!! The worst thing to do is study on your bed because you will not get anything to done because you WILL fall asleep. Trust me, I've been through this plenty of times when I start to study or even when I do homework. Find a place that is comfortable, like a desk, a dinner table or you can even study in school (In a quiet area because loud areas are not the best!) It will avoid you sleeping on yourself.

4. EAT A SNACK OR FOOD!! You cannot study on an empty stomach. I've tried it before and NO it does not work at all. You have to be functionally and functioning without any food in your stomach is the worst thing to do. Make sure you have a decent snack or reasonable food to eat in your system. Food is like our gas and our body is our car, when a car runs out of gas it means it's time to fill up. So EAT!!

5. Always make sure to talk to your professor when it comes down to your midterm. To make sure you are studying the right things because you don't want to be that person when you study and it was completely wrong. The professor is there to help you and to refresh what's on your study guide.

6. Remember GET A GOOD NIGHT'S REST. You want you eight hours or more so you can be completely refresh when it come to your Midterms. You don't want to come to your exam looking like death, run over...it's not a great look. You want to be refresh and ready to kick this Midterm in the butt.

7. BE CONFIDENT. You got this! Smoothing words also work so that the workload doesn't stress you out. Be confident, you own this Midterm, not the other way around.

I hope this helps you out, even though most of you guys finished with Midterms, us in NYC are now in Midterm season!! There's always next semester, you know that you will be prepared and confident in your exams.

How do you stay stress free during exams?

Saturday's Pick of The Day: iPad Air

I've always been a big fan of the Apple iPad, something I always wanted for a very long time. When the first generation iPad came out in 2010, I was really interested in getting one but you know parents, they are not going to spend so much money on something so big...and it was big. The only thing I didn't like about the first generation iPad was they didn't have a camera on it, until the second generation iPad came out with the camera on it...they got my attention again.
The one I really wanted to get was the iPad Mini because of it being portable and easy to put in your bag without it adding weight to your bag. Until recently, the iPad Air came out in 2013, I was in love!! With it's slick and thin look and weightless feel of it...I was determined to get it. I was very happy when my dad brought me one as a birthday gift because I really needed one for school, because I hate using my laptop because it's so big and it weighs a ton on my shoulder. Me, being a English major and a blogger, I needed a portable piece of equipment and that's where the iPad Air comes along.
I have the iPad Air 16GB with WiFi for T-Mobile and since I've had it I always use it for school and to write my papers for class it's very helpful. A lot of my friends asks what app I use to write my papers for school, I tell them it's a new app from Apple called Pages.
 Apple's Pages App

That's the app I use to do my homework and papers for my classes, it is very useful. I also use other apps to write my blog, do other school work and etc.  Another app I use on my iPad Air is the iMovie app, I use that to make my YouTube videos because I don't have a MacBook so I don't know any good software to do my video editing...if anyone know a good video editing software for my PC, it would be greatly appreciated.
After using my iPad Air for almost a month, I can honestly say it is worth it, it's even better to have it from your Cell Phone provider it might be a little cheaper to get then getting it from the Apple store. Because when you get it from the Apple store you don't get the WiFi that is attached with it but you do get the Internet, of course. My iPad Air is more of my notebook than a device since I use it for all my classes and also to do my blog posting.
iPads are just a good investment to have just like a laptop, so you would be investing in something well worth it.

Thursday's Pick of The Day: Origami Owl

I love a nice piece of jewelry whether it's on my neck, on my ear or on my fingers. This piece of jewelry is something that I always wanted for myself because its your life and the things you love in a necklace or bracelet. Origami Owl are custom made jewelry, it's very unique because everyone would have the same things you would have, which makes me more of a beautiful piece to have in your collection.
Origami Owl was started by Isabella “Bella” Weems when she was 14 years old. For her 16th Birthday, she wanted a car for her birthday, her parents told her she has to work to get her car. She started to do babysitting work and thats when the creation of Origami Owl came to be.
Bella has made Origami Owl into Million Dollar company something she didn't dream that it would be this big. I wouldn't of thought something like that in my mind because it was an amazing idea to come up with a beautiful piece of jewelry like this.
Even though you can buy it from the actual website itself, there are actual Origami Owl Jewelry Bar, where you have a party to sell different pieces to put into your locket. Also you can also be a hostess and sell the product to friends, family, etc. There are perks to being a Origami Owl Hostess, if you are interested in selling Origami Owl. here's the link: Origami Owl Hostess and any other information you would like to know about the brand, check out Origami Owl
If you own a piece of Origami Owl Jewelry, leave your comments below, I would like to know what you think about it and what's you favorite piece in your locket.

Spirit Football Jersey...How Can I Compare Thee??

(c)sororitydrunk.blogspot.com

When I'm in love with a particular article of clothing, I will let it be known from the rooftop, This is one of them. I been in L-O-V-E with the Spirit Football Jersey, since I saw one of my favorite YouTube Guru (Sarahbelle93x) showing one in her hauls. So let me give you a little mini history about the Spirit Football Jersey: Made in the USA becoming very popular with sororities, fraternities, colleges and sports teams. With its comfortable, the features the unmistakable bold back print in our famous puff font and unique drop-shoulder design.
I want to get Spirit Football Jersey but the only thing I don't like about it, is that you have to buy them in bulks, you should be able to get them individual without having to get them in bulks. There are different places that you can go, that sells them individually. So have been looking for other websites to get them individually. This is the ultimate jersey, very comfortable, big and soft.
I do have questions for people who do the the Spirit Football Jersey, did some of y'all get in bulks or did you go to a particular website to get them individually?  I really want to get one with my sorority and just a regular spirit jersey, also if you have a Spirit Jersey I would like to here your reviews about it.

Here are some websites you can check out if you want a individual Spirit Football Jersey:

Interview Look #1

Interview Look #2
When I'm on an interview, I know that the look is everything because it shows that you want this job and you are one stylish person at the same time. A look is everything, depends on what type of job your going for because you can look fabulous for a great job or look okay for a okay job. The looks I came up with above is simple yet cute outfit that you can wear either for a job interview or for work. These are simple outfits that can be for business attire and then it can be changed to an after work attire also.
Just know when your on an interview, remember to be confident, poise and determined to get the job. When you show that your edger to work for them, you have a better chance of getting the job. Also remember, know the history go the job that your working for, if you never been to their store or shop or read their magazine, give them that impression that you have shopped in their stores or read their magazine, they want people who knows what they sell or what type of stuff they have in their stores.
Just remember, in your mind, you got this job even if you didn't get it yet, just know that job is yours. Even if you don't get the job, just know that there's other opportunities coming your way. Don't give up, just keep on trying until you get the right one for you or just a decent job that will work for you. Think positive and positivity will flows through you.

App Blitz: GoGreekPro Stickers by HappyMonkeyApps

Now if anyone doesn't know, I am in a sorority and I love anything Greek and cute. I actually came across this app on Instagram and I was giving the honor to tested out the app, basically give my reviews on the app. I just couldn't pass up that opportunity, so I was able to check out GoGreekPro.
Checking out GoGreekPro, I liked it off the first bat. As you know, Spring Rush is here and of course, my sorority have already started Rush and I came made a cute.
This what I made with GoGreekPro and I love it, it's cute and something different than what i'm use to seeing while I promote for Spring Rush. Of course, I have a some Pros and Cons about the App itself, nothing negative just giving my 100% opinion on the app.

Pros: GoGreekPro have different features that makes the app very unique and fun. Different colors for the letters and also different stickers that shows for College life and Greek Life. You can take plain Greek photo, and add these cute stickers to make to cute and fun.
Cons: The only problem I have with the stickers is I wish there was some more colors for the Greek letters, not only patterns but also but also solid colors. Also with the stickers, they should add more mascots to the stickers so more people can be able to put their org's mascot on their picture. I know that I want to be able to show my mascots (The Swan or Aphrodite) on my pictures but I'm unable to.

Other than that, I really enjoy the app and I already know some of my friends who actually got the app and they enjoy it also. I can't to see what the future holds for HappyMonkeyApps because I know it will be great. Love the App!!

Little Problems started as a twitter account, now they are now selling Koozies, Buttons and Decals. The twitter account for Little Problems is still booming having 13,000 followers, Little Problems isn't going nowhere. College Girl Inc. - Sorority Life (NYC Edition)

(c) Google

Hey High School/College Girls,
Now I know around this time, school are sending out invites for recruitment for September, trying to find what sorority fits them, on YouTube or doing research on the different sororities at their school. As many of my fabulous readers know, I go to school in Brooklyn and I commute to school. At my school, we have a lot of local sororities and only two national sororities. Every school is very different when it comes to recruiting new members especially at some of the colleges in New York City. My sorority, Sigma Rho Phi Multicultural Sorority, Inc., was founded in City College of New York, part of the College University of New York (CUNY) and so is my school, Brooklyn College.
I was able to pledge for my sorority because of being part of the CUNY system, meaning I'm able to come into any of the 30 colleges & universities that are part of CUNY. Hopefully, I'm not confusing anyone...(lol). Now I know colleges outside of NYC is very different, to my opinion, I've watching YouTube videos on how the Rush process goes. From my personal views, how Rush is done is, they have Informational (Which is a brief synopsis of the sorority and what they do, etc.), after they do that they have Rush Events (either an outing, mixers with other sororities or fraternities, potlucks, etc.) With the local sorority you have to come to at least a certain amount of events (like 4 or 5 events plus 1 informational) and if you are what they are looking for, then you are giving a bid.
I know in some schools, they have either a formal rush or an informal rush, in my school, it's more of an informal rush than a formal. The only time you have to dress in business attire is during informational, every other event, you wear casual clothes. Everyone's rush is different from each other especially in New York City, different colleges have Rush a differently than other sororities.

Be on the look out for new posts from my newest topic, College Girl Inc. (The insider on girls in colleges and girls about to start college...and how to deal with college life from City Girl's perspective.)

Happy Summer,

Dr. Tawana Speaks...About Coping With Loss

I can honestly say that I dealt with my share of losing a family member or friend. I can honestly say it was such a hardship to bear. It's not the best feeling to lose someone close to especially someone who has been a part of your life since you  were young. Everyone has different ways of coping to losing someone, sometimes they won't talk about, they will share but they won't share a lot, they cry, they don't think about it or they don't feel nothing at all. There are ways to cope with losing someone, but I will get to that later.

Right now, I want to tell you about the first time I ever went through losing someone. I was a freshmen in college when it happened, It was a Sunday night, and I was doing my homework for my classes when I got a phone call from a elementary/middle school friend of mines (I never transferred after 5th grade, I was literally in the same school from 1st grade to 8th grade so we all were pretty tight.) telling me about his cousin, who I also had classes with and was really cool with, passed away on Saturday Night at a club in Pennsylvania. He was stabbed outside a club after an argument. Here is a link of the original article (http://citizensvoice.com/news/w-b-man-pleads-guilty-in-fatal-stabbing-1.1044823) I still couldn't believe it. Going to the funeral, was even harder because there was classmates I haven't seen it a long time, was a very sad moment. I remember the year before he got killed, I saw him in the summer and we talked he was telling me about how he was coming back to New York and how he wanted to change his life and better himself and when I was about to leave the last thing he told me was "I'll see you later." Those words have forever remember. Our last conversation, is what brings me to tears because he wasn't even make it to his 21st birthday and he was taking from us. I miss him everyday and I know that he is my angel looking after me.

Since the passing of my friend in 2009, I've lost my uncle that same year in September, My godmother in 2010, My aunt in 2012 and two of my grandmothers in the same year in 2012. I cried my eyes out for days when I lost them because they were apart of my life there were there for me when I needed them. I miss them everyday.

Even though I went through this lost in my life, I found ways to cope with them. These are tips on how to cope with your lost.
  • All that anger bottling up inside, it's good to write it out in a story, a poem or a song.
  • Thinking of the happy times that you shared with that person. Because they are no longer with you, doesn't mean that the memory of them is gone with them.
  • Talk to someone close to you, best friends or family members are there for you.
  • Sometimes it's good to just, sit in silence.
  • Make collages of the memory that you shared with them.

Sometimes there are other ways to cope with losing someone. Just remember, that people might leave this earth, but your memory with that person will never go away. Their love and care will always be apart of you no matter what. They are now your angels watching over you, you know they will always be there for you no matter what they will always be there.

Until Next Time,

Guest Post! Tips on How to Protect Yourself for the Summertime & Homemade Skin Care Recipe

 Hey Everyone,
I was please to have my first guest post from Michelle Pino, an employee from a Spa in Upstate New York called Skana. I was very happy that she pinch this blog post to me about taking care of your skin in the summer and making a homemade skin care recipe. I hope you all enjoy this post because I enjoy reading it.

Garden Variety Natural Summer Skin Care

Summer is that enthralling time of year characterized by outdoor barbecues and lazy days spent at the beach. Although the warmth and sunshine are part of what makes the season special, these summer elements are known to wreak havoc on the skin that is seen many years after the initial damage is inflicted. While one cannot spend one's life in a bubble, there are ways to minimize summer's harsh effects through the application of soothing natural skin care products.

Do It Yourself Summer Skin Care
People are becoming more aware of the dangers of the parabens and petrochemicals prevalent in today's popular skin care product brands, and many have decided to take matters into their own hands literally. That's right; many times they are skipping the expensive yet safer, commercially available “natural” skin care products and are heading straight to the kitchen cupboard this summer. Here is what they know.

·         Natural ingredients containing antioxidants fight free radicals even externally
·         Antioxidants are more effective when used fresh
·         Natural fruit acids gently exfoliate skin
·         Natural oils help skin retain moisture

A super nourishing, after beach skin care mask embodies all four of the elements of great natural skin care listed above, and happily, all the ingredients for the mask are common to the average kitchen pantry. The spa experts of New York resort, Turning Stone, developed the below luxurious skin mask.

To make this luxurious skin mask, you’ll need:
1 good-sized tomato
1 avocado
half of a lime

Method:
  • The tomato should be squeezed into juice with its pulp to obtain a quarter cup of the juice; an additional tomato should be used if the original tomato is not large enough to yield a quarter cup of juice.

  • The avocado should be peeled and mashed to garner one cup, and two of them may be needed to yield the required one cup.

  • After squeezing the lime to get one tablespoon of fresh juice, mix the three ingredients to form the skin mask.

  • Prior to applying the rich mixture to the skin, rinse the face with warm water to open pores. Afterwards, the mixture should be immediately applied in a generous portion to the face and remain on the face for thirty-five to forty minutes. During that time, it is normal for the skin to tingle largely due to the exfoliating effects of the fruit acid in the tomato and lime juice. After the allotted time has expired, rinse the face with warm water and follow it with cold water to close up the pores.

The result of using this completely safe all natural mask is soft, smooth, and glowing skin with no traces of summer sun damage. The fresh antioxidants and gentle fruit acids serve to brighten, purify, and erase the lines caused by the harsh summer ultraviolet rays. The resulting softness definitely comes from the natural oils in the avocado. This guacamole style skin mask is the perfect ending to a day spent enjoying sunny sea breezes at the beach or a walk at one's favorite park.

I hope you all enjoy it and Thank you, Michelle Pino from Skana for your fabulous post. Ladies, take care of yourself during the summer and be protective of your body and stay fabulous.
